    Increasing Dorsiflexion: Cuboid Mobilization

One of the most common deficits we see in our athlete in regard to ankle mobility is a loss of dorsiflexion.  While there are many potential influences, one that we find frequently is a lack of cuboid mobility.

Loss of cuboid mobility will restrict movement of the 4th and 5th metatarsals and block dorsiflexion.  Many times client may complain of midfoot or lateral foot discomfort or pressure when performing common ankle mobility drills.

If you’ve got manual therapy skills, you can alleviate the pain or pressure and restore dorsiflexion with a simple cuboid mobilization as show in this video.

If you lack manual skills, you can still get an improvement in dorsiflexion by performing a self-mobilization of the cuboid with a lacrosse ball.  Be sure to test and then retest your dorsiflexion to make sure you’re mobilizing the cuboid effectively.

Let me know how it works for you.

  • IFAST Assessment: Sport Specific Analysis

How quickly can you make a change in your clients’ performance?

    6 weeks?

    4 weeks?

How about instantly?  Don’t believe me?  Here’s the proof.

I’m going to show you a young baseball player that came to IFAST this week.  He’s already experiencing success, but he’s looking to get even better.

He’s a got a great sport coach.  He gets it.  He knows that for his coaching to be effective, he needs an efficient athlete.

He sees the way his athlete reacts to his coaching, and he’s experienced enough to know that this ballplayer needs something that he can’t provide.  So he came to us after learning of our IFAST Assessment, and how we can impact his athlete’s performance.

Whenever possible, we’ll view the athlete performing their sport as nothing can duplicate the exact demands related to force, mobility, energy demands, etc.  Couple this with the findings in our generalized assessment component, and we are capable of determining the exact source of dysfunction that may be preventing the athlete from playing to their potential.

We performed the generalized component of the assessment and then went outside to confirm some of the findings from the generalized assessment.

Here’s what his throwing looked like.   Pay close attention to the “short arm” appearance of his throw and lack of rotation and follow-through.

After viewing his throwing, we confirmed the source of his dysfunction and applied a specific, appropriate intervention to make the correction.

Here’s what his throwing looked like after the intervention.  Keep in mind that this video was shot only a few minutes after the first.

Even if you know nothing about throwing sports, you can see the improvement in follow-though and velocity.

So what did we do to make this change?

Did we stretch something?  Nope.  But range of motion and mobility did improve in just a couple minutes

Did we strengthen something?  Nope.  But strength did improve too.

Truth be told, the intervention doesn’t matter because it was specific to this athlete’s needs.  Needs that were determined by the IFAST Assessment System.

You can learn the IFAST Assessment July 27-28 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

  • Last Day for Peak Diet & Training Summit Discount and Muscle Imbalances Revealed Update

Today is the last day you can get Joe Dowdell’s and Dr. Mike Roussell’s Peak Diet & Training Summit for $100 off.

I can’t tell you how important it is that you get this seminar.

First, the quantity of information is off the charts.  15 DVD’s and over 600 pages of information from two of the top guys in the fitness industry.

Second, they left no stone unturned in regards to the number of topics covered fully in depth.

This is one of those resources that is a must have because you go back to this information as a foundational reference time and time again.  If I would have had this resource when I first started in the fitness industry, it would have saved me years of trial and error and countless mistakes.

    Here’s a little Q & A from Dr. Mike regarding this seminar:

Question #1 – Can you give us a little idea of what is covered in
    this resource?

    Everything 🙂

Seriously, this is the most comprehensive training and diet program
created to date. From a training perspective this program covers
assessment, periodization, how to training the different strength
qualities, how to structure a training session, energy systems
training, and how to manipulate sets, reps, tempo, and rest periods
    for accelerated results.

The nutrition portion of the program covers the important of
identifying your clients’ location on the nutrition spectrum and how
to coach to them based on their place, core nutrition habits, results
driven supplementation, fat loss diets and their progressions, muscle
building diets and their progressions, and the science behind workouts
    nutrition.

Question #2 – Why is this different from all the other diet & training
    resources available today?

Okay so the elephant in the room regarding online diet and training
resources/products is that most of their creators are ‘reporters’ of
information and not practitioners. The information that Joe and
Dr. Mike share in this program is a combination of research and
practice. Nothing this comprehensive that has real world street
    cred as ever been produced.

Question #3 – How will this help my training business?

With the Peak Diet & Training Design program you will learn how
to write better and more effective training programs. You will
learn how to train and coach to specific clients instead of using
a cookie cutter approach. From a nutrition perspective, you will
learn how to get you clients to eat better starting from day 1.
You’ll discover how to actually get them to make changes in
their diets that have an impact.

This program will help your training business by getting your
clients more results faster which will lead to better retention,
more referrals, and more money for you. Pretty simple.

Get it today and save yourself $100!
