Meet Bill

Physical therapist & Performance Coach

Creator of the Unified Health & Performance Continuum Model

Background

Bill Hartman has spent the last 35 years doing what most people in the performance and rehab world avoid: rebuilding the profession’s understanding of movement from first principles.

Like many practitioners, Bill followed the typical path of formal education and continuing education. He worked across outpatient orthopedics, hospital-based rehab, extended care, home care, and private practice. At the time, it just felt like experience. Looking back, it became the advantage. Those settings gave him a breadth most practitioners never get, and the pattern recognition that comes only from seeing the same problems repeat in different forms.

Across those environments, Bill has worked with everyone from everyday clients to high-level and professional athletes. He has provided education for NBA and MLB performance and medical staff, and he maintains a long-standing mentorship relationship with an elite Division 1 performance staff. He also provides ongoing, case-driven mentorship to health and fitness professionals across disciplines, guiding their reasoning and application of the UHPC Model in real-world settings. When a practitioner hits a wall, Bill is the person they call because they want the model, the reasoning, and the path forward.

Creating the UHPC Model

Bill built the UHPC Model as a comprehensive framework of understanding, reasoning, and application for human movement and performance. The core idea is simple: the human must be understood as it is constructed, and behavior must be interpreted through physical principles. From there, every assessment decision and every intervention becomes a matter of context, timing, and strategy.

Most approaches in this industry are built on weak foundations. They lean on tradition, trend, and tool worship. They teach practitioners what to do, but not how to think. They hand out methods without a reasoning process that survives contact with the real world.

Bill’s work is the opposite.

The UHPC Model gives practitioners that reasoning process. It provides a single coherent framework for interpreting why a person presents the way they do, what that means for how you intervene, and how to think clearly when a case doesn’t follow the expected path
