Exercise selection matters and it’s not as simple as following the cookbook.
Hope you have your @neurocoffee in hand. Let’s dig into today’s Q & A.
From Joseph:
Hello Bill!
I am wondering what drives exercise selection, particularly when it appears to me that there are multiple means to a solution.
For instance, when creating a posterior concentric yielding strategy in the pelvis, a Camporini Deadlift, FFESS, and backward sled drag may all provide the desired outcome.
how do you decide which exercise you will program when tackling a goal based on table test selection?

Knees are complex. There are numerous textbooks each about 3 inches thick that dig deeply into the knee joint.
Grab your @neurocoffee and let’s see if we can simplify things a little bit. Here’s todays Q & A.
From Mike:
Can you walk me through the relative motions at the femur/tibia, and how different positions (i.e. IR’d femur on an ER’d tibia) would limit knee flexion and/or extension?
Have a great day!
Happy Tuesday!

Reminder that the Coffee ’n’ Coaches Conference Call is tomorrow morning at 6am EST.
You can get the link prior to the call on my professional Facebook page (@BillHartmanPT).
Want to know how to train someone with an asymmetrical ISA?
Sit back with your @neurocoffee for today’s Q & A. From Karl: How would you train a person with an asymmetrical infrasternal angle? Would the primary goal be to use any resets to “normalize” or improve symmetry first, and then train in what ranges (IR/ER biased) they have available? #infrasternalangle #asymmetricalISA #BillHartmanPT

Another great Coffee ’n’ Coaches Conference Call this morning at 6am.
We even had several people from the central time zone join in.
Thanks for getting up so early!
We covered a lot of ground but went deep on understanding the concept of Yielding and Overcoming actions associated with connective tissue behavior and movement. It may not be what you think, so be ready to think differently.

Here’s a great Q & A regarding how shoulder rotation gets limited by compression strategies.
Grab a cup of @neurocoffee and have at it.
From Johnny:
Can you describe the mechanism at play when trying to decrease anterior compression, either on the pelvis or the thorax? For instance, some activities I’ve seen to increase traditional GHIR are aimed at increasing pump handle mechanics of the sternum by positioning the humerus in IR. By using this position, is there an intra-muscular pressure gradient that compresses the distal attachment of a muscle like pec major while allowing its proximal fibers to expand?
Also, to reduce anterior compression do you typically use asymmetrical activities?

You have to earn your way into the 16%. To do so, we must think differently. Fitness training is young and indecisive. Rehab is stagnating. Strength & Conditioning is being stifled by tradition and confusion. It's time to do the work necessary to improve or join the average.
