Webster provides us an excellent definition of resistance to lead into the All Gain Principles. Resistance is defined as the refusal to accept or comply with something; the attempt to prevent something by action or argument. I think this is an excellent representation of one of our goals as we age. We certainly can’t stop the aging process, but we can certainly refuse to submit to some of its consequences typically associated with getting older.
Research shows us that we can remain mobile and strong throughout our lives. We don’t have to succumb to the progressive loss of essential muscle mass that supports our mobility, nor do we have to gain the typical “X” pounds of fat per year that is considered the norm.
Webster also includes in his definition of resistance the ability to not be affected by something, especially adversely. Through proper program execution, we can reclaim our ability to move comfortably and effectively, and we can build a body that is resistant to the common stressors that we face a daily basis. Not only does this improve our appearance, health, and physical capabilities, but we enhance our quality of life.
Whereas resilience represents our foundation of success, it is the All Gain Principles to follow that will raise your tolerance in the battle against daily stressors, enhance your physical appearance through improved muscularity and reduced body fat, and restore the vigor you thought was lost to increasing age.
Your All Gain Principles:
Maintain Resilience
Appreciate Muscle
Manage Intensity
Emphasize Primary Exercises
Alternate Movements
Modify Exercises
Monitor Progress
I’ll expand on each of these in upcoming blogs.
